Quote Rabbitohs match on track for a sell-out
11th June 2009, 18:00 WST
Saturday night's NRL match in Perth represents a chance to turn around the league’s fortunes, according to South Sydney Rabbitohs chief executive Shane Richardson.
Richardson flew into Perth this afternoon with the Rabbitohs squad, which is due to play Melbourne Storm at Members Equity Stadium.
He told press conference involving both teams at Forrest Place that the match was on track to be a sell-out, with more 13,000 tickets sold so far.
“This is a really a great exercise if we can sell out on Saturday night,” he said.
“It’s a positive and it’s been a fairly tough season so far, so hopefully it might turn the whole season around for everyone, including us.”
Richardson said the match represented a positive story amid publicity over player behaviour and the swine flu
The game is a home match for the Rabbitohs, which have flagged committing to playing two matches a year in Perth for the next three years if the fixture proves a success.'"

| First and foremost are you going?
I heard they're expecting 18,000,if that's the case bring back perth quick.
Or take a SoO game there to give it a massive boost.....

| would a SoO be viable in perth? subiaco only holds around 40000 does it not. If they get a good crowd and sustain it for the games souths may bring over the next few years i can see no reason why the NRL dont admit the reds

| Nah we don't have a stadium fit for SOO. Regular NRL games would be enough for the next couple of years as we build and some positive noises from Gallop wouldn't go amiss!
Yes I wouldn't miss it for the world.

| The NRL needs a team in Perth. Members Equity is a poor stadium though, and Subiaco not really a RL type ground.
Where do the WA Reds play at the moment?

| Reds are playing some games at MES but mostly at the suburban WARL grounds (cost is alot less and they are supporting the WARL clubs as they get to keep all the bar takings)
MES is due for a redevelopment and the State Govt has "almost" agreed to funding a $75mill upgrade. This will include a new main stand, 30 more corporate boxes and capacity taken up to 25,000. They've been promising this for at least 10 years though so we shall see!
Quote almost"The Stage 2 redevelopment will see MES provide an increased capacity from 18,156 to 25,144 (seating will increase from 13,099 to 22,344), 24 additional corporate suites (from 11 to 35), improved lighting (1100 lux to 1400 lux), a new electronic scoreboard, two new video replay screens, a new pitch and sub-soil drainage and increased CCTV surveillance for patron safety."'"
