Great news.
If they can get a new stadium built in Port Moresby, then PNG should be given an NRL fanchise by 2017, along with Wellington, NZ.

| They don't need to build a stadium that is up to firstworld standards of comfort - in fact - that would be silly.
If you built a 20k all seated stadium in a city where no more than 4 or 5k could afford to pay 20 dollars for a seat, you would just an empty stadium and a riot every week.
All they need is a ground with a grandstand that can sit 5k and some great big hills where 15 or 20k can sit or stand for 5 dollars a shot.

| Great news.A real rugby League mad country and they deserve to get regular top class action on their doorstep.
It will still take a while, but this is a step in the right direction.

The average wage is only about $50 per week so you are right, the prices have to be low.

| Terrific news.
I've never understood why Aussie rl doesn't make a big move into the Pacific Islands.I may be wrong but I would have thought for a relatively small amount of money, they could seriously develope local/domestic leagues in Tonga,Samoa,Figi etc.I'm sure they would more than get a return on their money by developing local talent and significantly improving international rl. - am I wrong here?

The Pacific Islands are very basic places where most of the people still live in native villages.
They have no infrastructure.
Its pretty hard to develop places that are not developed economically or even have more than one or two basic roads.
Most of the people in the country are subsistence farmers, the rich man has two Pigs and a Goat.
