QuoteCall Me God="Call Me God"RLWC 2013 Achieved an average attendance that was 16,374 and some 7,400 or 81% higher than that of the 2013 Superleague.......by contrast, the NRL average is 15k and the current RLWC gates are 11,252 or 25% LOWER than the domestic season average.
Why did they bid for the right to host this comp?
Cairns? What were they thinking? Remember, the Aussies whined about Limerick yet they managed to get a lower gate this year...3 games at an average of 4,508.
Townsville? 3 games at an average of 4,278.....unforgivable given the Cowboys average there.
Melbourne for the opener? They took SoO there in 2015 and got 90K+........yet they couldn't even fill a stadium 1/3 of that.......
Canberra? 3 games including a home test match for the Kangaroos and yet still only 8,172 as an average....the Raiders averaged more than the Roos game achieved.
Without the PNG and NZ games this RLWC would be heading for a lower total than 2008.......the Aussies just haven't bothered and whilst TV figures are good, they do nothing to change perception that this is the 3rd level of comp as far as the Okers are concerned.
Marketing isn't about preaching to the converted, it's about informing a new audience of what's going on and inviting them to attend.....something that the organisers of 2013 did brilliantly and which the organisers of 2017 have failed to do at all! Information being freely available online isn't marketing.
If NZ somehow beat the Roos in the semi-final, we'll be lucky to see 25,000 at the final.....whereas the Final for pretty much every other sporting world cup is sold out before the opening game.....but no doubt the million + watching on TV will be rolled out as how Rugby mad the Aussies are

I think its a great idea to take it somewhere else, i don't even care where, i'm bored with it, its stupid, i just want to get xmas over & done with so we can start looking forward to next years competition, oh yeah, & the cricket, i'm looking forward to the cricket
Quoteluke ShipleyRed="luke ShipleyRed"Agree about the world club challenge. Also think that maybe some of the smaller countries (Scotland, Ireland, PNG etc), could tour USA & Canada. Or have a tournament with the above countries involved there.
England going there next year is a good start, maybe take a Australia/New Zealand test there.'"
We need to be careful that is doesn't become a bane to play, like a game that no one really wants due to costs and low crowds numbers and clubs start not being interested.
We should consider rewarding good work in areas with a WCC like Toronto for example, although not in February of course... lol
Quotedowno="downo"Why? its not remotely interesting, the tournament is an embarrassment, its be better not to have it, it just drags down Rugby League, the show piece of the game in Australia should always be NRL & SOO, this poop show just drags us down, its got a lot to do with England being at fault i suppose, seeing as they haven't been competitive in over 40 years
'"
State of Origin is a one sided joke these days. England have given Australia two harder games in this WC than NSW have given QLD in 90% of all SOO games in the last dozen years.

if we want it to take off need to showcase the sport. Apparently they're looking to turn there league professional, which would help.
If you are taking international's over, I think you have to include USA otherwise there won't be any intresting. If England v New Zealand, why not have USA v Canada before hand (both games together would be about an average NRL game).
Maybe for a one off time take magic weekend there?
If we are just relying on a couple of clubs there, the world cup would be a bust. And if we don't show teams like Tonga/PNG etc. No one will show up for there games.
I agree don't over do it, but slowly build it up so when the WC's there they're primed and ready.
The WCC should be 2 weeks after the GF. Then as you say could move it around. Toronto 1 year, France, Italy PNG etc. Use it as a showcase.
