A brief explanation...

Alcohol = increase serotonin (Happy hormone) release.

Morning after, serotonin depleted = feel flat/downbeat.

Over time, serotonin returns to normal = feel average.

However, the rate of serotonin production can be increased with further alcohol consumption.

Repeated practice = dependency on alcohol to produce serotonin (to feel happy). There is a limit to this affect.

Depression due to depleted serotonin ensues in those with a genetic disposition.
