I remember Billy Thompson he was the ref in the Floodlit Trophy Final replay at Wilderspool against Salford (we had drawn the first game 0-0) and John Bevan facing his own line dropped the ball 5 yards backwards and he gave a knock on. Salford scored from the scrum and won the game I think something like 10-5.

i was at that game it was phil ford who latched onto a ken kelly kick to the gymnasium corner it touched a hull player and ford picked it up and ran round to the sticks only for that pillock to dis-allow it..the try your on about was big bob took a pass from chizzy i think went round the full back only for the whistle to go and we got a penalty for a late tackle on chizzy..that day we had no hesford and had to rely on ronnie duane to kick the goals...blatent cheating at its best...didnt thompson go on the hull board or was that just a rumour
