I said that he would pop up with a try late on, right after he knocked on near his line. You just knew it would happen.

He looked quite happy at the end - I think for a split second we were going to get the fingers but he changed his mind and just booted the ball. The Cas fan next to me was going mental - I thought they had won the grand final.

Kick the ball to him and you can pretty much guarantee a mistake every 3 to 4 kicks (at his best).

Individually, he is. He's been fortunate to play in some very good teams.

If you were honest, and made a list of the Full Backs in SL at the moment ranked on ability, he's not getting above halfway. Tomkins, Hodgson, Webb, Grix, Greenshields, Kearney, Briscoe et al are all better.

Never stops trying though, bless him.

Mathers seemed like a popular lad when he was at the club - folk who knew him all seemed to like him, but I can't see past that play-off semi at Leeds, when he allowed one up-and-under to bounce after another. Only a miracle prevented them storming in for several more scores as a result of such ineptitude.
