| these new bunch of rules that we have had to put up with for the past couple of years are complete e!,,the stealing the ball rule..should be put back to its original state .sometimes its pinched and a knock on is given... then vice versa its knocked on and a bleedin penalty is given for ball stealing...then the one foot behind the dead ball line is another load of cobblers....the only good rule is the 40/20..the rest of em are utter cr@p...

| I don't think you should be able to take the ball out.
It does not fit with the rest of the rules. If a ball was kicking in general play and bounced in field, then a player carries it into touch the scrum would go against them.
I have no idea why they made it different for a ball going dead.
If it was a catch on the full with no bounce then fair enough that would match up with the rules elsewhere on the pitch.
I'm not exactly sure were we are with ball stealing, but it's always going to be messy as defenses will want to cause attackers to lose the ball and attackers will want to offload and play the ball quickly. So there will always be an element of messiness around whether it was stripped of knocked on.

I don't mind the 40/20 to be honest. It's a skill thst some have masterd and it's exciting as it's a game changer.
A prime example is the Sinfield one against us last year which completely changed the game.
The ball steal is a mess. It's very hard for a ref in the heat of the moment in a split second to make a judgment.

re the dead in goal thing, people moaned about this for years, so they changed it about 3 seasons ago, ball had to go over the line and touch the floor or the ad boards or a camera, something physical for it be deemed dead, people moaned about that and they changed it back after 12 months.

| Why can't it just be like the rules for a ball going into touch?

| Worst rule is the 20 metre tap when the ball has been hoofed miles down field. Sinfield was the king of this. I think if you kick it dead from more than 40 metres out the tap should be 20 metres forward of the point it was kicked from. So if you hoof it dead from half way the tap us on the 30 etc.

Haven't the NRL put some rule in place to stop kicking it dead? Sure I read something on it.
While we all having a moan, my biggest dislike is time wasting on drop outs, kicking for goal, scrums and kicking to touch. The Rlf need to bring something in to stop this. It's slowing the game down way to much.
Luke Walsh thinks it's a time out when we get a penalty, he has team meeting before kicking to touch.

As soon as a ball touches something out of play then it's out of play, if the catching player has a foot in touch he's out of play. That has been the case for the touch lines for years, all that happened is that the dead ball line is now treated with the same rule.
However, the touch flags can be touched as the player holding his arm out over the side of the pitch is not touching the ground and so is not deemed to have taken the ball out. The extension of the line upwards is no longer the role of the flags so a player can touch a flag without grounding any part of his body on the line and not be considered out where previously the flag was an extension of the line vertically - out of line with the vast majority of the rule.

Again I think the NRL have set a time limit on these things. Also Wilko said straight out on TV that they deliberately form scrums slowly to take a breather.

| My pet hate is defending teams that kick the ball away after conceding a drop out for a bit of a breather. Danny Brough is by far and away the worst offender but all teams do it to some extent.
Another pet hate is tackled players moving off the mark. Those that milk penalties by taking a step to the side to put the defenders off side (not square) are worse than those who steal the odd step forward.

If the ball runs dead for a 20 tap in the NRL, then the attacking side are given a zero tackle in the next set of six.
They also have 20 second countdown clocks on scrums and drop outs.
The rucks are also a hell of a lot cleaner as a result of the two refs as well.
