| now that rangi chase has been figured out by most opposition defences and teams now weigh him up and know how to handle him it just seems to me that they have no back up plan to get them out of trouble. having watched the game last nite against the giants they had no threat from anywhere else on the pitch, mcgoldrick must be rubbing his hands cos hes pinching money off cas no threat whatsoever, dixon and younguest are championship players at best, the young lads coming through are good but have no confidence and the cas forwards most of them championship level at best.
its gonna be a long hard season for cas they were absolute dire last nite!!1

| Congratulations on starting 2 threads in one day about Cas on neither your own (Fev) or the Cas board
It's easy to single out a teams best player when said team is playing on the back foot every week with poorly coached attacking plays (they only use one now ).
Last night however, he was the only half back on the field for Cas so they made the easy task of sussing out the one play they do run even easier.
I can't believe this but Matterson did a better job than Millward, no idea in attack or defence.

Rangi can't do anything without a fast play the ball, which are obviously few and far between when they play a decent team. I got shot down on here when I said he would get sussed in the Internationals. If you look at his big performances last year the vast majority came against teams that finished in the bottom half. No doubt he'll still be wearing an England shirt at the expense of the far superior English trained Danny Brough.

Couple of things:
His best games last year came against Huddersfield and Wigan...neither of those teams finished in the bottom half (Leeds in the cup too)
Secondly, Brough and Chase play different positions - they will be the half back pair for England (and that is the best combo you can pick).

| Rangi can do nothing about his team mates inability to not drop the ball or commit a foul. He was trying last night but when you you are playing behind a totally beaten pack and a back line that could not keep hold of a ball for toffee, then it is always going to be a struggle.
Whilst i did not think he deserved MOS last year, there is no doubt that he is a very special player. He will be gone a the end of the year unless Milward can sort things out.

Man of steel - the one player who contributes the most to their team, so Rangi Chase
He will be gone at the end of the year? Did you miss that new massive contract he signed? Who's going to pay 750k for him?

I would prefer to see our halfbacks as Brough and Widdop, I thought that Widdop was very good in last year's Four Nations and would work well alongside Brough.

As things stand it is hard to dispute that. Again i am not personally a fan of Rangi being selected for England (not that my opinion counts for much being Scottish ) but he is the pick of the bunch of "eligible" half backs.
Thing is though if he is going to get battered all season in an under performing side, why would he deserve to be picked?
Sounds like i am Cas bashing here but i am not. You where a good side last year and you should be capible of replicating that.

Because if he has a somewhat decent season in a crap team with no forwards then he should play well for England (against Frace & Wales this year) in what will be a dominant pack against teams like that.

Not sure where you got the idea it was for contributing the most to an individual team
According to the RFL website it is for "most outstanding player in the British game"
www.therfl.co.uk/history_and_her ... el_winners
That aside, i would imagine a couple of teams would cough up the 350k that he is obviously worth. 750k? you have got to be joking.

Well a team would have to buy out his contract (3 years at about 175k per) + a fee on top of that the club would want.
