| I think this is a case of being pushed because he refused to jump. Whilst he's had a lot of success, the club has imploded on the field in 2 out of 3 seasons, and I think Hetherington realised something had to be done. We're not only losing but playing awful, boring rugby as well. You can get away with one but not both. Before fans of other teams carp on, I'm perfectly happy with a few seasons of not winning cups if we rebuild and just start to look good to watch again.

| Man U hardly played great football themselves in several of Alex Ferguson's title winning seasons and now look at them five years on since his retirement.
As for McDermott, if Toronto had any brains they'd sacked Rowley and appoint him immediately. He would be brilliant for them.

| too many old players at the club. some fantastic youngsters a couple of years away from being ready so I cant see a huge clear out. maybe 3/4 players out, mainly props and second rowers

They have some ageing players but, they also have some quality SL players but, mainly it's been the lack of an adequate replacement for Sinfield that has really hurt them.
Wonder if Wigan will be talking to him ?

| Gareth Hetherington is an ungrateful and mean spirited barsteward.
Toronto Wolfpack needs to buy Brian McDermott, to guide them through their first seasons in Super League, prior to the restoration of licencing and the challenge of New York City captained by Samuel Burgess.

| It will be interesting to see where he goes.
He's been a successful coach but quite often that's a case of the right place and the right time.
Millardat Saints and Noble at Bradford both won lots of trophies but couldn't repeat it elsewhere.
I can think of only Tony Smith and John Near who have managed to win trophies with different clubs.
McGuire won GF with Wigan and then in Australia with Rabittoas. But it doesn't happen very often.
Whoever comes in at Leeds is going to face the same problems that McDermott, perhaps they just need someone younger who is hungry for success

| great man manager but poor coach. with sinfield and the rest he was a perfect fit. ptepared them well, managed the ego's and let them play.
now he has to coach and organise he's lost. he doesn't do structure or shape. we have never under him had set attacking plays. without top quality on the pitch he's clueless

| He had to go, it’s all gone very stale at Leeds over the past few seasons and the rugby is awful to watch. Now he’s not got Sinfield, McGuire, Peacock and Burrow he’s come to the end. His record of trophies will make him look a better coach than what he really is. The way that Leeds played on Friday combined with the fairly swift nature of the sacking tells me he’s lost the dressing room as well.
Having watched the As Good As It Gets film it was clear that McDermott and a lot of senior players didn’t agree on a number of things. Now that he’s no longer got a great team he’s been found out. It’ll be interesting to see who they appoint, the ideal candidate should be Powell but I imagine he’d cost too much.
