It is with great sadness that Warrington Wolves have to announce the passing of Ockher. He died yesterday evening in Warrington General Hospital at the age of 76.

Roy Aspinall was known by everybody as Ockher, he was one of life’s most colourful characters. Although he hailed from St Helens he had been connected with Warrington Rugby League Club for 42 years.

Ockher was a family man, who leaves a wife Sue, sons and grandchildren who he adored. He was one of those colourful characters who could always tell a good story and will be fondly remembered.

A legend from Wilderspool, a character in the days of real characters! A sad day for the club and for those who knew him, rest in peace Ockher, you've earned it.

The tales he could tell would keep you in stitches for hours, would have loved to have seen Sky interview him, bleep machine in overdrive!

a terrible terrible shame, i loved ockher, go all the way back to the testimonial match for Gary Chambers and Chris Rudd, the after party at the touchdown tavern, i ended up talking to him sat at the end of the bar, and must've paid for his beer for half the night.

Cracking fella to talk to, always saw him charging over bridge foot or through town on his mobility scooter, sporting some kind of RL merchandise.

One of the nurses who was helping Ockher in his final hours has posted on FB that as a Wire fan she had to comment on her patient's attire - Leeds Rhino top and Widnes shorts! That was Ockher..a true character..and a gentleman. The years of service he gave to Warrington will NEVER be forgotten. Rest in Peace, Sir.

Great article. Never met the bloke but I've heard the stories and if even 10% of them are true it's safe to say that the word character doesn't come close to covering him. RIP.

I saw him just the other day in town on his scooter and thought how frail and unwell he looked.

A great shame, he was a huge part of the heart and soul of the club. Hope him and Mike Greg are having a monster party somewhere right now, laughing about the old days.

Absolute top lad and a great servent to the Wire. He'll be up there now have a few beers with Mike Greg and Dave Chisnall. Definitely the end of an era.
