Quote meast="meast"Can't say I'm too excited by this, Gaskell, decent player no doubt but as others have said, he seems to be out of action quite a bit. Clough and Fergy, decent lower level SL players.
But over the last few years ,we seem to have got the best out of players that no one believed was good enough.
I suppose with the ever dwindling "Audience" we have now we have to get used to these type of players'"
I get the point you are making entirely here, The only thing I would say is the audience at the Giants has never covered the cost of the players, Mr Davy has done that, along with Sky
If we are going down the lesser players route, it will only end in one place, With due respect to the players mentioned, they are not going to make us competitive with the top sides, ( should we stay amongst them ) I truly think it is vital that we get the right coach this time, and I thought all super league clubs spent up to the cap ( not sure ), so why do we have to settle for lesser.
There is a lot of difference between getting young players with potential from the lower leagues, such as Brierley, who a good coach can mould into a top player, and players who have been around for years at different clubs without becoming anything special. Without being disrespectful to anyone, we have our share of those.
I really think the Giants are at the crossroads, We don't have to settle for the lesser players option, and what comes with it, We can look upwards and think about increasing the audience, But as has been talked about on here often enough, The club seems to need some different people and ideas, off the field, to have any chance of getting it right on it.
It's very easy to put things right on a Keyboard and spend someone else's money, But I believe The Giants are at a crucial place, They can either settle for being also rans , like they have been for the biggest part of the last 50/60 years, or they can press on with what they have been threatening to do for the last few years , and become a respected club again.
