I live in St Helens and I have been told today from loads of people that from 2012 Wigan will be paying Saints 300k a year to play at their ground. Whelan wants to up the rent by a stupid figure and that is our solution.

I initially passed it off as rediculous, but some of the people its come from are very well informed at Saints.

It will be closer for me to go but I hope this is all b******s because we need are own identity and place to play.

Has anyone heard anything similar or am I getting stung by the ultimate windup??????????????

but as I understand it, Whelan wishes to double the rent on it, making it cheaper for us to pay Saints for use of their ground

The DW stadium would be a massive unused white elephant burning a hole in Whelans pocket. Who's to say that the football team will be in the PL in 2012? Their crowds are falling year on year anyway, 14k against Chelsea is the first clear indicator that all is not well at that club - even Whelan is massively concerned about it.
